His first novel, A Density Of Souls, published when he was 21, is a thriller which tells the story of four young friends in New Orleans whose lives are pulled in drastically different directions when they enter high school. Keir Gilchrist gay role of Marshall in the United States of Tara.

Toni Collette is the big star and has the juiciest role (or roles) on Showtime’s new dramedy United States of Tara. But sixteen-year-old Keir Gilchrist has generated a some buzz for as Marshall Gregson, Tara’s son, who just happens to be out and proud and doesn't think there's a big deal about it. Actually, neither does the rest of the family.

In every other gay teen drama, Marshall being out at such a young age would likely involve a great deal of internal angst, a battle with the parents struggling to come to terms with and accept their gay son, and problems at school. There is zero of that on this show.

But when your mother suffers from DID (dissociative identity disorder), meaning your nuclear family includes not only mom but your mom’s alters – including an out-of-control sixteen-year-old girl named T, a Leave it to Beaver mom named Alice, and the sexist, macho, and very male Buck – being gay just isn’t that big a deal in the overall scheme of things.

In person, Gilchrist is soft-spoken and thoughtful, two characteristics he shares with the teen he plays, but he's also enthusiastic about video games and sports.
Being in a show where an actor as well known as Collette gets to play four such eclectic, scene-stealing parts might not leave room for the other actors to really perform, but that hasn’t been a problem for Gilchrist, who has been singled out by television critics as giving the show’s breakout performance.
So what made the born in England, Canadian actor want to play the part of Marshall? Says Keir, “One, it’s a combination of a great show and then just a really fun part, so it was something else I hadn’t done before. I never really get to play a cool, suave character. I usually play nerds, so it was cool to do that.”
Marshall is out to his friends at school and family from the very start of the show, something that was in the initial breakdown for the character. When Gilchrist auditioned, a process he described as grueling, he was told the character was “gay, but not like stereotypical whatever, just like a normal guy.”

Keir appreciated the fact that Marshall was out and free of angst without any explanation as to why. “It is kind of like you’re dropped right in. All the characters are already formed when it starts. It was kind of like, out, gay, just kind of set up the character for you. I talked with Diablo Cody, writer and executive producer, about it a little bit. I talked with the director, Craig Gillespie, a lot and we just formed the character.”

As for Keir’s take on his character, he says, “I always thought he’d just always been gay… like maybe when he was six years old, he was like, ‘Ah, I like Jimmy,’ or something and from that point on it was never really questioned. So that’s how I think about it.” As to whether his family’s easy-going acceptance of his being gay has to do with his mother’s DID, Keir says, “I think maybe because it does take place in Kansas, so it’s not like – maybe it might be a little harder for the parents if they weren’t already dealing with this other thing, but … Toni and John’s characters are very accepting people.”

While Tara is accepting of her son’s sexuality, going so far as to encourage Marshall to pursue the young man at school on whom he has a crush, not all of the alters are so progressive. “Buck, Tara's male alter, doesn’t really agree with Marshall being gay, but I think in a way he at least likes Marshall, so it’s fine with him, I think.

As for Max his dad and Kate his sister, Keir says, “Other characters like, I think Max – it was funny, John in real life didn’t realize my character was gay until we had already shot the pilot and we got it and he went, ‘Marshall’s gay?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, it says so!’ He’s like, ‘Oh, really, I didn’t even know.’ So that was kind of funny. So I guess his character sort of just kind of shrugs the shoulders and I think there is actually a really nice moment in one of the episodes in which he does sit down with Marshall and it’s kind of – not come out, but it’s like, lay it on the table, ‘I’m gay.’ Kate is fine with it, but she does poke fun at Marshall every once in a while.”

Unlike most gay boys on television, Marshall is also allowed a love life of sorts. He has a crush on a classmate named Jason (Andrew Lawrence) who also happens to be a born again Christian, a fact that Marshall ignores in a typical school crush fashion. But when asked about what might happen between the two, Keir is cagey. “I do get a crush on a guy and like the character has a boyfriend and then it’s kind of out on the table and it’s like, all right. We don’t want to give away too much. … I don’t think it ever becomes boyfriend and boyfriend, but there’s romance going on.”

When asked if he turned to any gay teenagers for advice on how to play Marshall, the young actor says, “I don’t really have any gay friends, at least who are out yet. I find, I don’t know if it’s as much other places as where I live, it’s more open, but at my school it wouldn’t be very easy to be openly gay.”

Keir says he does get some clowning from friends for playing Marshall, but he knows they aren’t homophobic and doesn’t take offense. “My friends will make jokes, but they’re all very accepting. If they weren’t, I wouldn’t be friends with them. If they were like, ‘Oh, you’re playing gay. I have a big problem with that,’ that wouldn’t be cool.”

Asked if he’s aware that his character is rather groundbreaking, Keir says, “I’m hearing it more and more, which is interesting because I never thought it would be such a big deal, but hearing stuff like, ‘Wow. You’re being openly gay on a show is a big deal because that hasn’t happened,’ kind of surprised me. I don’t really watch that much television, I guess, but I never really thought about it, so it’s pretty cool. I’m kind of excited actually about doing something.”

Told he is in fact going to be a role model for gay teens, Keir considers, then says, “That, to me, was really – I kind of started thinking about that and that made me feel really happy. If I can make anybody feel more comfortable about themselves, that’s, you know, that’s extra. I’m actually kind of excited about it.”

That’s a response I see everywhere on the internet to the suggestion that someone is gay. So let’s think about this for a bit... who does care?

- Well religious bigots do. They do not want to be a part of something that doesn’t fit into their small box of a life. They have a church leader that tells them what to do, so thinking about anything is bad in their gods eyes, because if they think they will realise that they donate money and pray to some of the richest organisations in the world and poverty is still rampant. But the wack-jobs aside...

- There is the gay kid growing up thinking they alone in the world.

- There is parents of gay children who think only freak gay people like the Queer Eye for a Straight Guy people are the only ones who are gay. Not say someone who they can relate to.

- There are the children in the playground who tease effeminate boys, because all the adults they look up to are tough and straight!

- There are most people who use the word “gay” as to mean something bad, not to mean someone/thing cool like say Vin Diesel.

The question has to be asked, why do people sue other people because when they say that they are gay? Why is it that people deny being gay, if it doesn’t matter then why deny it?

If stars want people to respect their privacy then why not simply ignore talk of them being gay, like they would if it’s said they are heterosexual. Why do famous people tell the press they are heterosexual? If they don’t want talk of their sex life then why tell everyone of the type of person you want to have sex with. Isn’t that very personal? Why do you want to tell everyone something so personal if your private life is so valuably private?

So famous people are very concerned about sexuality, they want people to think they are heterosexual because they are worried how it will affect their career. I liken this to people who would not release their slaves because then slaves of other owners would want to be free too. Or the Nazi he goes along with orders to murder because everyone else is.

I think time, the future, will judge these people in a similar way for the repression of homosexuals.

Paul Morrison, the director of "Little Ashes," a film about the strange, complex and forbidden love between Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca and surrealist painter Salvador Dali, talks exclusively with The Dish Rag about casting "Twilight" hero Robert Pattinson in the period piece.

At the time, Pattinson was just another undiscovered young British actor (he'd done "Harry Potter"), and little did Morrison know that this young man would draw unparalleled attention to his small film, which opens May 8, without a US premiere.

Paul Morrison: I love the fact that an audience is going to be drawn to the film, partly through Rob, that wouldn't otherwise get to this kind of movie. We played the Belfast Film Festival last week and there were quite a few of Rob's fans there, not the majority by any means, and they loved it and they really took to it, so it's great that kids will be reached by the movie.

Dish Rag: Playing Salvador Dali is a daunting role for a young actor.

PM: Yeah, I don't think Rob realized what he was getting into when he agreed to do it, but he really worked hard at it, he really grappled with it, and I think he's done something very extraordinary. It's so difficult to do, because you have to tread light all the time between playing Dali as a young lovable young man, which he was, and suggesting the kind of pastiche of himself that he became in later life, that he presented to the public in later life, and that's a very tall order, and I think Rob pulled it off.

DR: The resemblance is actually quite amazing.

PM: The intensity was important, but I wasn't really looking for resemblance. And in the performance, I wasn't looking for mimicry either.

DR: How did you find Robert Pattinson?

PM: There are a lot of great young actors coming up in Britain, a couple years ago when I cast him, and I guess I saw all of them, all the ones that were available for me to see, and in Spain as well. We had to have a mix, because of, for reasons of the financial co-production, we had to have a mix of Spanish and UK actors. And originally, I was looking at Rob for Lorca, and thought we'd find our Dali in Spain, but he was so right for Dali that I switched it and we cast Dali in England and Lorca in Spain.

DR: So you had no notion of all this "Twilight" stuff, and you just watched all this happen as your film gets ready to be released.

PM: Yeah, it's just extraordinary, jaw dropping. And great for us. For a little film like this you need a bit of luck.

DR: It's wonderful to see a young actor like this, who despite the fame and the adulation is choosing a path and taking some extremely challenging and provocative roles. Do you think he will continue on that path?

PM: He is serious about acting and I am sure that, yeah, he will want to do roles that challenge him. I can't tell you how hard he worked on the role of Dali. I was encouraging him to just play the script, but he was for himself hunting down every day bits of film or tape or interviews or a biography of Dali. He worked really hard at it, both intellectually and emotionally. I think that's in his blood now, I think. I don't think he'll be satisfied with playing less than interesting roles.

DR: Well, he'll certainly want to do more than climb up pine trees and fly around.

PM: Yeah, I'm sure he's not complaining about that.

DR: Those gay sex scenes and the nude scenes, were those difficult for young actors Rob and Javier Beltran?

PM: I think they were difficult, but I think all sex scenes are difficult, and for all actors of all ages. And I find them difficult, certainly, to direct, and ... you have to get very intense about them, and as a director be clear as to what you're looking for so they know that they're acting and they're not doing it, and I think Rob probably found it harder than Javier, to draw the line between performance and, ah, but that was also in the nature of the part, that Dali's sexuality was so complicated, complex and mysterious, I think even to himself, and his fear of sexuality, and if you're playing that role, that kind of rubs off on you, so I think sex and pain were so closely entwined with Dali that to play those scenes is also hard, and the triangle sex scene is an unbelievably difficult scene. One of those scenes in everybody's life when you're doing something and you know it's really really wrong, it really, it goes against the grain, but you're doing it, so playing that scene is hard, it's always hard.

We also asked why Rob Pattinson and Javier Beltran appear in a blue-lighted, erotically charged water scene, once with underwear on and later, in Dali's recollection, without clothing.

PM: Yeah, what happens is that Dali recalls that scene later on, after Lorca's death, and in his memory they're not wearing underwear. So there is a nude scene, tastefully shot, of course."

Clay Aiken, the former 2003 American Idol runner up, multiplatinum recording artist and now Broadway star, confirmed longstanding rumors that he is gay. Aiken came out publicly on the cover of People, holding his infant son, Parker Foster Aiken, with the headline: "Yes, I'm Gay."

"It was the first decision I made as a father," Aiken told the People. "I cannot raise a child to lie or to hide things. I wasn't raised that way, and I'm not going to raise a child to do that."

Aiken came out to his family 4 years ago. He and long-time friend and producer Jaymes Foster welcomed their son, 6 pounds, 2 ounce Parker Foster Aiken, into the world on August 8, 2008. The baby was conceived through in-vitro fertilization. Aiken and Foster plan on raising the child together, although they are not in a romantic relationship.

The Rumors That Clouded Aiken's Career

In an emotionally charged September 2006 interview with Diane Sawyer, Clay Aiken skated around the issue of his sexuality. "What I do in my private life is nobody’s business anymore," Aiken proclaims. Rumors about Clay Aiken’s sexuality had been circulating, well, since his first appearance on the 2003 season of American Idol, but they were never confirmed.

And then came the accusations. Former Army Ranger John Paulus broke his silence to the National Enquirer, revealing an alleged affair with Aiken. He claimed Aiken approached him in an internet chat room. The ranger also said he not only had sex with the pop star, but saved the IM messages and a wash rag.

Mexican pop star and actor, Christian Chavez (born as José Christian Chávez Garza on August 7, 1983 in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico) rose to fame playing the character of Giovanni in TV soap Rebelde (or Rebel in English). Chavez is a member of RBD, a band birthed from the soap.
Chevez Comes Out: Christian Chavez came out in March 2007 after a web site posted pictures of the star kissing another man at a 2005 Canadian civil ceremony. The singer, known for his constantly-changing hair color, told BBC News that he did not "want to keep on lying." Chavez also addressed his fans, "I ask them from the bottom of my heart, not to judge me for being honest and to feel proud of who they are."
Famous Gays in Mexico: Chavez's public announcement is seen as an act of bravery to many in Mexico. Homosexuality is still considered taboo in the Latin American country, where few famous people come out. Activists and Chavez supporters hope his announcement will help create a more inclusive Mexico. All the comments and threats, all the ‘shock’ and ’Yes I knew its’ I have just taken on the chin and put up the comments with no ‘reply. But even though it has been so long the replies roll in day after day after day. (A fair few I cannot publish.)

So a little condescending education for you people.

If I said that person X was straight, would you be shocked, would you care? No you wouldn’t, that’s because YOU assume everyone is heterosexual unless there is explicit PROOF that they are not.

This is called decompartmentalisation. To decompartmentalise things is to put them into a box separate from other things and to never cross compare or analyse it like you would for things that are in your box.. Here is an example-

“Mexicans come over the border, take our jobs and live off our welfare.” You see the problem here if they are taking all our jobs then they are not on welfare. You see how its irrational. Here is another-

“I am scared that black people might mug me so I am extra careful where walking near one at night.” So you are a 16 year old black kid walking down the street, just finished work at garage and this white women (or man) walks down the street sees you and gets frightened. How does that make you feel? Would you spit on the racist bitches face? Maybe? Most likely not.

You see how when you look at things from another person’s perspective it helps in breaking down racism. This breaking down the compartments in your mind where there are rules for some people (black people mug at night) and rules for others (do you spit on racist bitches?) and from this you realise that we are all the same. *sniff*

So what’s up with gay people?

“Gays should not get married” Now just put yourself into that position that this white Idaho guy pours his money into a church to fund stopping other people from having a rights he has. Do you feel sorry for him... I do. Does he care about a gay persons right to have what he has? Nope. Because he has rights that other people should not have because he is in his own compartment. (*Did you know Barack Obama’s parents where a mixed race couple and it was illegal in some states for them to marry.*)

Now here is the main example for this blog-

“You are a gay 14 year old boy living with evil religious parents that would disown you rather than except you for who you are. You are isolated from the reality of the world, only getting you information from idiot friends, through the TV, movies and a parental locked internet. So all you know about gays comes from the media which depicts them as drag queens, maybe campy girly guys like in ‘Queer eye for a straight guy’ or that guy from Wil and Grace you want to shoot. But no one who is like you!”

So this blog is to make people think, maybe this person is gay, it actually doesn’t matter to them what you think or to anyone else but maybe to the 14 year old kid who is isolated... it means you are not alone. Maybe you need not hate yourself, maybe there is no need to attempt suicide.

So... join me here at looking at sexuality from the heterosexual side and assume people are all gay... and point flimsy reasons why unless I get undeniable PROOF they are not.

Well actually if you take the maturity of the teenage brain and it stops from developing into adult hood that you get a decompartmentalised brain. The person is often, homophobic, racist and religious. To understand this think of them as a teenager who thinks their friends are everything and they hate other people not in their group. It’s the same as that but some people never grow out of it. Its often made worse by having very strict parents because they end up growing up thinking that authority is a given right and we should not question it. (think that’s not so bad?... think Nazis!)

Hello everyone,
This month (August,2006) is Boy band month at the GayInfoSource. It has come to my attention that at least one person in every boy band is gay. We have Mark Feehily from Westlife, Lance Bass from N-sync, Boyzone has Stephen Gately

McFly has Danny Jones and Dougie Poynterand while S club 7 has Jon (Johnathan Lee). All of which will get a look in this month.

Some of the big questions over who is gay in bands such as:

Steps, 5, 911, Aqua, Liberty X, Blue, Boys II men, One true Voice, Bad Boys Inc, Worlds Apart, Blue, Blazing Squad, OTT, Hanson, 3T and A1. (Yep this list is for my record as well as yours.)

So which back street boy is gay? Which member of Blazing squad is also flaming? Which boy is in 2 men? and do we really want a Hanson on our team?

Big questions... When not clubbing, I'm scouring the net, so keep checking in.

It is now well-known and well-proven that Hayden Christensen's longtime companion is Trevor Blumas. In an interview in the gay magazine "The Advocate" in 2001, Hayden Christensen all but claimed that he was gay. In his last role performance for almost two years, "Guilt by association" Trevor Blumas wore jewelry in the absolute exact and precise pattern of current gay/bisexual jewelry codes (information obtained from webmasters at several gay web sites). In early 2003, a photograph was published in a gay-oriented magazine entitled "StarCeleb" which showed Hayden Christensen and a young man who was described as the new man in Hayden's life: this young man turned out to be Trevor Blumas. In September 2003, a story was planted that claimed that Hayden Christensen was not paying his rent and would be evicted from his home in Hollywood Hills, and then Hayden moved back to his home in Toronto at the end of the month. In early October of 2003, after having lived in California with Hayden in his Hollywood Hills home and having attended Santa Monica College for a while, Trevor Blumas returned home to London, Ontario, outside of Toronto, ostensibly to film the movie "Prom Queen," but also apparently to try to resuscitate his career. The latter one earned Chad several nominations in the best actor category. In addition to the movies he made that year, he also stepped back on stage in two theatre productions; Mike Ambrose's play Dearboy’s War – which addressed the treatment of gay soldiers and the meaning of freedom and the controversial Corpus Christi in which he starred and produced for its Los Angeles premiere. Chad also landed the starring role of missionary Nate Saint in the 2006 docudrama "End of the Spear," despite his sexual orientation. The asking price was $3.75 million, but there is no word how much he actually paid for it. Berfield is 19 and single. The home is in Calabasas, north of Los Angeles. It's Mediterranean-style and includes a screening room and music studio. The house served as the backdrop for "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica."

Now ..... I have an idea for another show but it would take confirming a rumor! I have talked about this in the past but there is a webpage that claims that Reese (Justin Berfield) from Malcolm in the Middle is gay. You have to really read the webpage to see all of the work this guy put into connecting Hayden Christensen, Trevor Blumas, Justin, and Aaron Carter to being gay. Well, today's news story shows that Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson have sold their "Newlywed" home to 19 year old Justin Berfield. This was confirmed by a press release from Lachey/Simpson publicist and repeated by the publicist for Justin, Hope Diamond. Yes, I know I thought the same thing.....he has to be gay. He has a Drag Queen for a publicist. Well since the Newlywed house is already accustomed to reality television I think Justin should have a show. We could see if all the young gay Hollywood stars are hanging out together and ewwwing and ahhhhhing over anything Jessica or Nick left behind! I know I would love to see if Trevor Blumas stops by. I watched the whole series of the Uk queer as folk and wow Charlie Hunnam is way hot! He plays a gay guy and by the end is ruling Manchester... like he would!
So looked into some stuff about him... he was discovered while goofing off in a shoe store in his native Newcastle, Hunnam was quickly cast on the BBC series "Byker Grove", playing a long-locked model with a recurring role. ZEGERS SOLD HIMSELF TO RESEARCH ROLE

Canadian actor KEVIN ZEGERS stalked the streets pretending to be a male prostitute while preparing for his role in new movie TRANSAMERICA. The 21-year-old star, who plays FELICITY HUFFMAN's gigolo son in the movie, solicited another man for sex and agreed a price, before making his escape through a back door. No doubt that anyone with an Internet connection has read about Tom Cruise being gay. According to rumor lore, he has had a long-time boyfriend in Chicago who is an Asian pilot for American Airlines. This is an accusation that Cruise and more importantly Cruise's many attorneys vehemently deny.
There have been many stories that supposedly corroborate his sexuality but never a smoking gun. Rumor mongers attribute this to the fact that Cruise goes to great lengths to cover his tracks. We are told that everyone around him signs extensive confidentiality contracts with enormous penalties for indiscretion. (Exhibit A: the 8-page confidentiality contract Cruise's housekeeper was forced to sign).
Such stories have been around for years and Cruise has evidently attempted to counter them with a series of high-profile heteronormative relationships. First, Nicole Kidman, then Penelope Cruz, and most recently Katie Holmes. In each instance, the "relationship" is actually a contract that gives the women a boost to their careers, a lot of money, and an elegant lifestyle.
Here is where this particular rumor gets interesting. Not long ago, Marisol, the wife of Matchbox Twenty's Rob Thomas (who has had to contend with his own rumors of bi-sexuality) found her husband in bed with Tom Cruise causing Cruise's people to shift into high gear.
First, Mrs. Rob Thomas was bought off for an undetermined sum.
Second, Cruise and his handlers set out to immediately find Cruise a girlfriend. Second-tier actresses were targeted. A list was drawn up with Jessica Alba (#1 pick) and three other girls who fell out for various reasons. Originally targeted (#3 I think) but later rejected as "undesirable" was rumor queen Lindsay Lohan. Way down at #5 on the list was Katie Holmes, but that was the one with whom they were able to strike a deal.
Once the contact was signed, photo ops were set up, leaks were made to the right places, and we've had celebrity relationship on steroids ever since.
One thing I will credit this rumor for is how it nicely explains Tom's behavior this past few months-including the couch jumping episode on Oprah. Cruise simply didn't have time for the Holmes rumors to circulate at its normal speed and he couldn't allow it to be second page news while the tabloids focused on Brad, Jennifer and Angelina. No, this relationship had to immediately become the "it" topic.
Well, that's how we hear it.

If there's one thing I know, it's that random gossip from total strangers based on absolutely no facts is true about 100% of the time. That said, here's an email that reader Rob decided to forward in.
So, I work with this girl who has a family friend that works in PR in Hollywood, and she always has fun little scoops about celeb stuff. Well, if this is true, this is just ridiculous! So, the whole Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes thing - apparently, it is, like we all thought anyway, a ridiculous PR thing. Tom Cruise was supposedly caught in bed with Rob Thomas (the lead singer of Matchbox 20) by Rob Thomas's wife, Marisol. Rob Thomas is also a Scientologist. Obviously, nobody wanted this to get out, and Marisol was going nuts threatening to expose them. I think that she might be getting paid off, but to preempt any rumors about Tom, the Scientology people as well as Tom's PR people basically recruited Katie Holmes to play this part of Tom's super-excited girlfriend, and they are just paying her a b*ttload of money. I guess they also woo'd her with promises of what this would do for her career, since she's at best a B-lister. But I guess now Marisol is so annoyed at all of the press Tom and Katie's relationship is getting, she's threatening to go public, spill the beans, and file for divorce.

Official government report: Kevin Spacey is gay

HOLLYWOOD star Kevin Spacey has been "outed" by a government-backed group teaching gay history in Britain's schools.
The American Beauty Oscar winner was until yesterday on a Famous Gays and Lesbians list in a lesson plan by the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender group.
Its History Month for February is available on LGBT's website. The Department of Education is believed to be contributing £20,000 to the project.
Organiser Paul Patrick last night said he was "saddened and angry" at the "mistake".
But Spacey was included on the list ??" alongside figures like Dale Winton, Graham Norton and Oscar Wilde - from a school presentation a year ago.
Mr Patrick said: "We double check our material carefully but Mr Spacey's name got through. I don't know how. It will be withdrawn.
"It should not have happened and we apologise."
Spacey, 46, artistic director of the Old Vic in London, has never answered questions on his sexuality since an Esquire magazine article in 1997 implied he was gay but later appeared to backtrack.
Rumours were fuelled in 2004 when he refused to report he had been mugged at 4.30am in a London park.
He claimed he had tripped over his Jack Russell chasing a man who had conned him out of his mobile phone.

Actor Renfro Pleads Guilty to Heroin Charge

Brad Renfro pleaded guilty in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday to one felony count of attempted possession of heroin and will enter a drug program.

Wearing tennis shoes and a suit, Renfro, 23, was sentenced to three years' probation and told to return to court on March 6 to begin his treatment through California's Proposition 36 program, a 2000 voter initiative that permits those convicted of first- and second-time non-violent drug possession to receive treatment in lieu of incarceration.

Should Renfro violate the terms of his probation, he could face 18 years in prison, L.A.'s City News Service reports.

Renfro remains free on $10,000 bail, and his attorney told reporters outside the courtroom that the actor looks forward to putting this ordeal behind him.

"It's his first step in getting back to work and putting this all behind him," attorney Richard Kaplan said, according to KNBC-TV.

Renfro was one of 14 people arrested for allegedly attempting to purchase heroin in L.A.'s skid row section during a Dec. 22, 2005, police sting. Following his arrest, he voluntarily entered a live-in drug rehabilitation, which he has since left.

Film director Joel Schumacher discovered Renfro at age 12 and cast him in the 1994 John Grisham movie The Client (which also starred Susan Sarandon and Tommy Lee Jones). The following year, PEOPLE named the young screen hopeful one of its "Top 30 Under 30."

In 1998, Renfro was charged with possession of cocaine and marijuana, but avoided jail time thanks to a plea deal. Three years later, he was arrested in Ft. Lauderdale and sentenced to two years' probation for allegedly trying to steal a 45-ft. yacht with a friend.

In May 2001 he was arrested again on a charge of underage drinking. The next year he was charged with driving without license and public intoxication. Because the later charges violated the terms of his probation, Renfro was ordered into an alcohol rehab center.

Brad Renfro isn't such an "Apt Pupil" after all.

The 23-year-old actor was sentenced to 10 days in jail on Wednesday, March 8 when he pleaded guilty to driving under the influence, and thus violating his probation. He was immediately taken into custody and sent to prison.

Renfro already has two prior DUIs. For the plea agreement for this current one, the Los Angeles Metropolitan Court judge ordered the 10-day jail sentence, that the actor attend an alcohol program as well as a "hospital and morgue" program, reports TMZ.com.

The last can either serve as a condition of probation or as an alternative sentence. In the program, the offender observes an evening in the emergency room of a local trauma hospital and then visits the Department of Coroner to witness an autopsy procedure (usually a substance abuse-related traffic fatality).

In return for pleading guilty to DUI, other charges, including driving with a suspended license, were dismissed.

Just two days earlier, on Monday, March 6, Renfro was in court on separate heroin charges, in which he was ordered to attend a rehab program. The sentence stems from a December arrest in which he admits to trying to buy heroin in a drug sting in downtown LA from undercover cops.

He has a history of run-ins with the law including: a 1998 arrest on cocaine and marijuana charges for which he struck a plea bargain, probation for attempted theft of a yacht in 2000, an arrest for underage drinking a year later and a 2002 bust for public intoxication and driving without a license.

Renfro first broke out in 1994's "The Client" and went on to lead roles in "Apt Pupil," "Bully" and "Telling Lies in America." He was most recently seen in a supporting part in "The Jacket."

It is news guaranteed to make many Republicans squirm. Was Abraham Lincoln, founder of the party now seeking a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage in America, actually gay himself?
A new book, published next month, certainly thinks so. The Intimate World of Abraham Lincoln by C.A. Tripp produces evidence that one of America's greatest Presidents had a long-term relationship with a youthful friend, Joshua Speed, and shared his bed with David Derickson, captain of his bodyguards.
Tripp, a former researcher for sex scientist Alfred Kinsey and an influential gay writer, includes asides by many of Lincoln's close friends. 'He was not very fond of girls, as he seemed to me,' his stepmother, Sarah Bush Lincoln, once told a friend.
It also includes a diary excerpt by one upper-class Washington woman who wrote of Derickson: 'There is a Bucktail soldier here devoted to the President, drives with him, and when Mrs L is not home, sleeps with him. What stuff!'
Scholars have long debated Lincoln's sexuality, and as early as the 1920s were making veiled references to his relationship with Speed. However, critics say that in the pioneer days men sleeping together in rough circumstances was not uncommon.
Now Tripp has discovered letters between Lincoln and Speed which supposedly betray a deep intimacy.
But Tripp's book really breaks new ground in its exhaustive portrayal of many of Lincoln's possible gay lovers, including one man who said Lincoln's thighs 'were as perfect as a human being could be'.
'Make no mistake - Abe Lincoln was gay,' said Professor Scott Thompson, from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts.

Irish actor Colin Farrell admitted earlier this week that his agent "would kill me", if he took on another sexually ambiguous role after his turn in soon to be released films Home At The End Of The World and Alexander.

It's actually Jesse Metcalfe. Apparently the Daily News doesn't have the fabulous copy editors that I have! The paper constantly misspells this kid's name. I don't know why it's so difficult.
Meanwhile, Jesse and another girl -- his girlfriend -- made their first public appearance at the Emmys tonight. (Clearly his lines work on some ladies.) We'll have more on Jesse -- and, of course, the Emmys -- later.
Update: Because I'm crazy like that, I emailed Gatecrasher's Ben to tell him about his mistake. Here's his reply:

PR means public relations. I have a very close friend (not a friend of a friend's cousin, etc) who works in LA for a Major TV network and is not the gossip type at all, actually laughs and totally dismisses all these gay rumors. I saw him this weekend and asked him about Jesse and if he heard the gay rumor and said that he's very "out" in the community and it's very well known that he is..where there's smoke there's fire..we are not hearing rumors that Tom Hanks, Brad Pitt, Nicolas Cage etc are gay because they are not..it's the celebs that are, that we read about..yes, they are out there and just because they don't fit all the perpetuated stereotypes of a flamboyant gay man, doesn't mean they are not gay. Some guys actually speak without a string of pearls falling out of their mouths..they have to blend and their paychecks depend on their appearance as a hetero...if they weren't "actors" then probably they would be out.

yes, he is definitely in the closet. it's amazing how his ears perk up (in mixed company) at the mention of a gay night at a club. he is never seen snuggling with females in LA, hangs with nightclub promoters and fellow actors, but is always nice, reserved, and holding something back - the urge to kiss that hot guy at the bar, i'm sure! ;) he is a very nice guy, respectful, a bit shy, and obviously scared to let the public know he is gay because it will obviously minimize the fan base. such a hottie, though - my gf's and i only wish he liked women!!

The trailer-trash legend of Lindsay Lohan's family continues to grow. Yesterday, according to a report in Page Six, her uncle - Paul Sullivan, 48 - pleaded guilty to ripping off a 9/11 victims' relief fund.
Sullivan is the brother of Lindsay's mom, Dina and admitted to stealing the $646,900 intended to help struggling downtown businesses by allegedly forging U.S. Treasury checks and cooking the books of his Ropa Group corporation.
Sullivan faces anywhere from 37-46 months in a Federal penitentiary. Lindsay's estranged father, Michael Lohan, is currently in the slammer on a drunk-driving conviction.
As far as Lindsay goes, The Ho-Han vs. Chest-Ica Simpson feud is reportedly forging ahead and the tactics are beginning to get a bit personal. Apparently Lindsay wants to 'hook up' with Simpson's estranged husband, Nick Lachey.
"The next time I see Nick Lachey out, you'd better believe I'm going to be all over him," Lohan reportedly said to a pal. "And he's such a dog, he'd go for it."
Damn, and she wonders where she gets her nickname.
The 13-year age difference is certainly nothing new nor a concern for Lohan who has been romantically linked to a plethora of older Hollywood movers and shakers including Jared Leto (34), Benicio Del Toro (39) and, most recently, Brett Ratner who's 37.

You've heard the stories, right? All that ferocious frolicking those Lord of the Rings riders have been getting up to? So, let's stop in at the Hollywood premiere of Lord's second installment, The Two Towers, and ask Elijah Wood himself, shall we?

"Pardon me, Mr. W.," I insisted. "Please complete the following: Hobbits who play together..."

"...Make sweet love together," Elijah responded faster than an Orc attacks.

Okay, then. But more on that nooky-note a bit la-tuh. Let's first check in with the rest of those canoodling cretins at last Sunday night's ArcLight Cinema do. Right smack on Sunset Boulevard. And let me tell you, the Hobbits and Elves were feeling most festive and frisky--as E.W. has already proven.

Picking a path down the red carpet was Billy Boyd, aka Pippin, who was looking every inch the Scotsman in his black-tie kilt.

"What's underneath the skirt?" I inquired.

"My monster!" responded the game guy with a devilish grin. And no, B2 didn't unleash this sneaky skirt beast at any point in the night. At least not that I saw.

Equally merry on this devilish eve was Dominic Monaghan, who trotted over to yours truly with a sucker stuck in his puss. Looking scruffy, with mussy blond locks, D.M. peeked over my shoulder to wave at the hordes of hollering LOTR fans lining the traffic-jammed street.

"If I wasn't in the movie," mused D.M. in his lilting British accent, "I'd probably be across the street with all of them."

Little early in your career to start channeling Joan Crawford, I thought, but instead said: "Hobbits are such a merry folk," to which he bobbed his head in agreement. "When are you at your merriest?" I asked the benevolent boy.

"When I'm with all the other Hobbits, drinking beer or...eating, ya know," Mr. M. answered between deliberate licks on his lolly. "A Hobbit's perfect night would be to be around a lot of other people, have a big meal and a party."

"And what about on those nights when you're not dazzling fans?"

"We don't tend to go out on the scene all that much," he stated, somewhat sheepishly. "We hang out at each other's houses, you know...doing the typical things that guys do."

"Such as?"

"Playing videogames, watching DVDs--and then we call girls up," Monaghan continued with a boyish wink. "And they say they can't come 'round, so we call more girls up and play more videogames."

"Okay, Mr. Dial-a-Dame," I said, "complete the following: Hobbits who play together...

"That's naughty," D.M. said, as if coralling babes by cell is good clean fun. But with a big fat smile, the D-man relented and answered, "Live together!"

"Oh, have you been playing house with the other Hobbits?"

"We've all been living together at Billy's house in Mexico. Me, Elijah and Sean all went down there," he explained with a chuckle. " All the Hobbits under one roof for about three weeks. It was like life imitating art."

I'm guessing this is where head Hobbit Elijah Wood's comment comes into play, eh?

"We are merry!" E.W. heartily agreed as he held up his digital camera and snapped a few pics of his buds on the red carpet. "It [Mexico] was amazing; we had the best time!"

With a secretive grin (dreaming of lazy lovemaking, perhaps), D.M. rejoined his gang of boys, which included the delectable Orlando Bloom.

Tearing himself away from the cozy clan, the noble Elf was looking luscious in all black, with a wispy-thin mustache and a tuft of chin scruff.

"Tongue in my ear!" Orlando purred as the "new guy," Karl Urban , surprised him with a friendly nuzzle as a greeting. In the mood and chatting about his merriest moments with the Hobbits, O.B. happily brought up their time in New Zealand:

"Oh, surfing was the best," Mr. B. exclaimed. "We'd have a few days off from shooting, and we'd all go out and surf all day long."

The ocean, that is. The phone lines weren't ridden till later in the evening.

Poopin' P.S.: While the Hobbit boys were gabbing about kicking up their feet, the Elf princess, Liv Tyler , was mainly moaning about how she was ready to go home already and have some dinner (a pastime she was fond of on the New Zealand set, remember). Not exactly the partying type since she has settled down with her Spacehog fiancé, Royston Langdon.

Whoopin' P.S.: And where was Viggo Mortensen in all of this boyish busyness? V.M. ditched the usual pencil-pushing press and dashed 'cross the street, where the frenzied fans stood in awe of the starry scene. Followed by a harried handful of flackers ("Where is he going?" was the most common schoolmarmish screech heard), the man who plays Aragorn raced over to shake hands and sign autographs. And trust me, that's not something you see every day. Ain't it great?

In her first interview since her breakup with Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston told Vanity Fair she was initially "dumbfounded" when she saw photographs of Pitt with his hair dyed "a really gay blond" shortly after the couple had split. Aniston said she recalled thinking, "Ohmigod, he didn't waste any time coming out, did he?"
According to Aniston, she had suspected for some time that all was not "on the straight and narrow" with Pitt's sexual preferences. While refusing to go into detail, Aniston confessed that Pitt wanted her "to dress up like a man" when the couple had sex. Aniston said she tried to accommodate Pitt at first, but "some of the things he wanted me to wear were quite uncomfortable—not to mention ridiculous looking.
"I didn't mind the Village People and Barbra Streisand CDs, or watching that Kevin Kline movie about the gay high school teacher over and over," said Aniston, "but the accessories were over the top."
Aniston said she finally complained to Pitt about those "accessories," but he told her if she didn't want to "play ball" with him, he would find someone else who would.
"I thought he was bluffing at first," said Aniston, "and that his so-called 'attraction' to Angelina Jolie was just an attempt to gain leverage in our relationship. The next thing I knew, he was photographed playing house with her and visiting a known gay beach in Africa. That really hurt."
Although Aniston struggled to maintain a brave facade in the Vanity Fair interview, she broke down twice during the three-hour session. The first time was when she described her reaction to Pitt's new hair color. The second time was when she recalled her feelings upon realizing that Pitt had contracted AIDS.
"That story about Brad being hospitalized with viral meningitis didn't fool me," said Aniston. "I know what that's code for."
Aniston said that even before she learned about "Brad's medical condition," she had forgiven Pitt and felt no animosity toward him.
"If he found someone willing to do things I was uncomfortable doing, more power to him—and to her. I will always love Brad, funny accessories and all."
Pitt, who is currently vacationing on Fire Island with Angelina Jolie, could not be reached for comment about Aniston's interview. Pitt's spokeswoman, Cindy Guagenti, issued a terse statement saying Aniston is "seriously delusional if she thinks Brad Pitt is gay, even though there's nothing wrong with being gay, of course. Indeed, Brad remains sincerely grateful for the support of his legions of gay fans."

What ever happened to Christopher Pettiet?

Letter from his manager.
One of my young clients, Christopher Pettiet, age 24, died of a accidental drug overdose last Wednesday, April 12. 2000. I met Chris a good 10 years ago, when he was best friends with Tobey Maguire, to whom, in my bumbling fashion (and for sad lack of Tobey having a better offer) I was makeshift manager.
Chris was hip and cool and rich at that time ó and the most flashy and successful of a young trio of actor/friends centered by Tobey and bookended on the other side by Leonardo DiCaprio. He starred in "The Young Riders" TV series, and in several films and TV movies, including "Don't Tell Mom the Baby-sitter's Dead."
Chris was on the small side when he was a kid. He was tiny and all legs and big blue eyes, and would most commonly sit like a frog when he was talking to you. He loved to surf, sneak out of his bedroom window at night to run around with his friends, listen to obnoxious music so loud that it would literally make his car bounce up and down with the bass-beats. He grew up to be over 6 feet tall, every bit as hip and cool, and, when life got tough and acting jobs became fewer, just about impoverished -- living from one small residual check to the next.
I ended up working as his manager for the past four years, always desperately walking the fine line between giving Chris support, covering up his problems and occasional catastrophes, and forcing him to face facts and take responsibility for the numerous things he did, and did not do, which made life much harder for him. I'm proud to say that I cheated and schemed and lied on behalf of Chris to keep him in favor with his agents and casting directors, and keep his career moving forward regardless of all the personal problems which kept coming forth to clobber him -- some of his own making, some just cruel fate.
I'll take it as a compliment from Chris that, for all my pompous, self-important arm-chair quarter-backing on how he should live his life (as if this colorful, mess of a life which is my own qualified me to advise anyone on how to do anything!), he never fired me as his manager for more than five hours at a time.
Chris would never, ever, admit to me that he had a problem with drugs, but so damnable old and so painfully experienced and opinionated, I spent the past two years trying to convince him to go with mutual friends to AA meetings (he went to a couple), or find some other organization to help him get a better handle on his life.
It's bitterly ironic that Chris cared so much about my opinion on innumerable things, yet felt he could never admit to me that he had a drug problem (despite the fact I obviously knew). How sad and stupid that Chris would think it would lessen my opinion of him or make me see him as anything less than just simply Chris, who I cared about and wanted to help.
I've reached a point in my life where, in order to preserve what little sanity I have left, I believe my achievements are more worthy than my failures. And I truly believe I helped Chris through a lot of difficult years and situations, and truly do not believe the loss of Chris is my failure ó but isn't it strange how what you believe is not always in agreement with what you feel?
Now the armchair quarterback is back in his office, alone and pounding these damned typewriter keys, wishing I could have found a word or a gesture or a strategy that would have not only prevented this stupid outcome for Chris, but could have convinced Chris of all the terrific things he could have had, and could have been and, in fact, all the wonderful things Chris already was. Including flawed, which we, all of use, are.
I know that, just these few days later, Chris is already of The Past, which I can never, ever change. And I know that now, I can only take his unnecessarily fear-filled friendship, his earnest love (and his sometimes frog-like beauty), and reinvest it in some future Chrises.
Whose futures, with this secret, unspoken piece of Chris which I shall so tenderly and lovingly place within them, should turn out -- please God -- much finer and brighter for the troubles Chris had to go through.

Chris' mom, Helen, had asked that, in lieu of flowers, anyone who would like to remember Chris should please do so by making whatever small contribution they might care to, to the young people's acting studio where Chris got his start ó and always felt appreciated and welcomed, even as an adult. Yes, the reports you’ve been hearing are sadly true. Last Wednesday, November 12th, the 27 year-old television star, Jonathan Brandis committed suicide by hanging himself, and friends discovered him. There was no suicide note.
Preliminary toxilogical reports reveal that there was NO trace of drugs of any kind found in Jonathon’s body. None.
Our hearts go out to this fine young actor’s parents, Greg and Mary, who are understandably devastated by this death.
Speculations as to the underlying causes of this tragedy are exactly that; speculations. It serves no purpose to leap to conclusions for none of us will really know what led Jonathan to his decision to take his life.
We are left with a sense of helplessness and perhaps even anger that this thoroughly unexpected death occurred when we have spent years developing resources to deal with any and all crisis situations.
This one hurts. What more can we say?

Jonathan Brandis' Apparent Suicide.
Actor Jonathan Brandis, who began his television and film career as a child star, has died, the victim of an apparent suicide. He was 27.
Brandis was best known for his portrayal of crewmember Lucas Wolenczek on two seasons of Steven Spielberg's underwater sci-fi series, SeaQuest DSV, which catapulted him to teen-idol status.

Police said a friend of Brandis' called 911 from the actor's apartment just before midnight on November 11 to report that Brandis had attempted suicide by hanging. Paramedics rushed him to the hospital but he died the next day.
Paul Peterson, president of A Minor Consideration, an organization that deals with issues affecting child actors, released a statement expressing his sorrow over Brandis' death.
"We are left with a sense of helplessness and perhaps even anger that this thoroughly unexpected death occurred when we have spent years developing resources to deal with any and all crisis situations," Peterson's statement read. "This one hurts. What more can we say?"
The Los Angeles coroner's office performed an autopsy, but won't announce the cause of death until Brandis' blood and toxicology results are returned, which could take up to six weeks. However, according to Peterson, initial reports showed no sign of drugs in Brandis' system.
"Speculations as to the underlying cause of this tragedy are exactly that: speculations. It serves no purpose to leap to conclusions for none of us will really know what led Jonathan to his decision to take his life," Peterson stated.
Born April 13, 1976 in Danbury, Connecticut, Brandis got his start at age six, when he landed a recurring role on the soap One Life to Live and appeared in numerous commercials. He moved to Los Angeles with his family at age nine, and made guest appearances on shows such as Murder She Wrote and Who's the Boss?
Brandis earned his first starring film role in 1990's The Neverending Story II: The Next Chapter. He went on to appear in 1992's Ladybugs with Rodney Dangerfield and more recently in the Farrelly brother's Outside Providence in 1999.
Brandis reportedly left no suicide note. He was an only child, who is survived by his parents, Greg and Mary Brandis.

Since I've never attempted to have sex with Leonardo DiCaprio, I can't speak to his sexual preference. Although it seems like every male star who makes a splash gets accused of being gay at some point unless he makes a big show of his promiscuity with women a la Warren Beatty and Matt Damon. In my opinion, the ones who flaunt their heterosexuality are probably more likely to be gay than the ones who choose to keep their personal life personal. As usual, let me preface this item by saying that I have no idea if Jamie Bell is actually gay or straight or whatever. But now that he's 19 and starring in movies like King Kong, the young actor most famous for bringing The Dance to a Thatcher-era British mining town in Billy Elliot is going to have to plant his flag on one side of the sexuality fence. You know, for magazine-profile and press-junket purposes.
But this interview in The Guardian suggests that Bell - who has politely sidestepped the whole teen-awkward-stage thing and could grace the cover of GQ tomorrow - actively wants to start rumors about his own sexuality. He lists the three most important people in his life as his mother (sweet), Billy Elliot and The Hours director Stephen Daldry (who was openly gay and then married a woman) and (DING!) "my best mate from up north, he's like my soul mate, my brother, and he's just started drama school in Mountview. We are each other's mentor. He gives me what I need and I give him what he needs."
Yowza. Jamie sounds like, um, a really good friend. And later, Bell stumbles through the most awkward round of The Pronoun Game this side of a CSI cast party:
Bell: No, actually, I think I wear my heart on my sleeve in real relationships. I haven't got a girlfriend at the moment.

HOLLYWOOD - Tom Cruise, Ben Affleck, Clay Aiken, and other stars were bested by Smallville's Tom Welling for the chance of playing Brad Pitt's love interest in Oscar-winning director Ang Lee's new film, When David Met Jonathan. The biblical epic, which relies solely on texts from the Old Testament books of Samuel, chronicles David and Jonathan's story of passionate love, intrigue, and deception.

According to Mr. Lee, he came up with the idea for When David Met Jonathan when a theologian friend of his mentioned there was a male love story in the bible.

"At first I didn’t believe it, but there it was—the story of David and Jonathan. Everything I needed for the screenplay was right there in the books of Samuel. By utilizing the biblical texts, we saved a bundle on writers' salaries and avoided ego problems."

When Mr. Lee read the description of David as "a handsome, ruddy youth," he thought immediately of Brad Pitt. Fortunately, Mr. Pitt was searching for a role like this to expand his repertoire, and he could still fit into the costume he wore in Troy.

The chorus of "pick me, pick me" began when Mr. Lee announced an open casting call for the part of Jonathan.

Singer Clay Aiken was so desperate to land the role that he created a disturbance on a Southwest Airlines flight bound for Chattanooga, Tennessee.

"He wouldn’t put down his cell phone when I asked him to," reported flight attendant Juli Harris. "He had this really crazed look in his eyes and kept saying he had to reach his agent."

Mr. Aiken was restrained by an on-board air marshal, and the pilot made an emergancy landing in Knoxville, where Mr. Aiken was arrested for bitch slapping Ms. Harris repeatedly. As a result of Mr. Aiken's arrest, his performance at a Piggly Wiggly opening in Chattanooga was canceled.

When asked about the possibility of Mr. Aiken playing the role of Jonathan, Mr. Lee cited the 18th chapter of 1st Samuel where Jonathan strips nude in front of David and hands him his clothes. "I just don’t think the public is ready to see Mr. Aiken that way."

Mr. Lee heard from Tom Cruise' people the minute the casting call announcement had been made.

"I questioned whether Mr. Cruise would be willing to play this role because Scientology describes same-sex love as 'a most vicious reversal of the second dynamic,'" said Mr. Lee. "Apparently, Mr. Cruise had gotten permission from Katie Holmes to play the role, as long as he remained silent during the love scenes.”

Lee also revealed that he had been contacted by Ben Affleck about playing the role of Jonathan, "but only if Matt Damon could be David."

Mr. Affleck contacted Mr. Lee after learning that the screen test would involve a scene in which David and Jonathan fall on the ground, kiss, weep, and make a covenant with each other as depicted in the 20th chapter of 1st Samuel.

"I told him the part of David had already gone to Brad Pitt," said Mr. Lee. "Besides, people are tired of seeing Ben and Matt together."

Mr. Lee admitted that Tom Cruise had been the leading contender for the role of Jonathan until Smallville star, Tom Welling, auditioned for the part.

"He waltzed right up to Brad and just nailed it. He really blew Cruise right out of the water."

Mr. Lee says he is prepared for any backlash from the Christian right-wing community.

"I can understand their getting upset over a gay depiction of the American cowboy, but if they have a hard time with the theme of When David Met Jonathan, I'll just have to suggest that they don't mess with the literal meaning of the scriptures."

Ian Somerhalder on gay acting roles.

Ian Somerhalder is one of those rare creatures - the successful male model-slash-actor. With Hollywood a virtual graveyard if the breed (RIP Antonio Sabato Jr), Somerhalder stands alone, looking gorgeous if slightly uncomfortable. Not surprisingly, he's determined to put those heady teenage years pouting for the likes of Calvin Klein, Versace and Dolce & Gabbana behind him. "Modelling was just a job," he says, perhaps a little too insistently. "[Acting] is a profession and a love."
The 23-year-old Californian's dramatic skills will probably never upstage that face, but in his pursuit of credibility he's already displayed surprising range. He was loathsome as one of the two Wyoming youths who murdered Matthew Shepard in the 2001 tv movie, Anatomy of a Hate Crime, and now he's batting for the other ream as college student Paul Denton, variously reviewed as "bisexual", "gay" or [our favorite] "unhappily homosexual", in the hedonistic anti-teen movie Rules of Attraction.
Adapted by Roger Avary (co-scriptwriter of Pulp Fiction) from the 1987 Bret Easton Ellis novel, it's the story of a lust triangle-Paul wants Sean, Sean wants Lauren, Lauren wanted Paul but never quite got around to him-set in an affluent New England liberal arts college. (Read: indiscriminate sex, good drugs.) While the film, laden with cinematic trickery and set to a psuedo-80's soundtrack, has been widely criticized for looking good but going nowhere, the same can't be said for its cast. Avary has shrewdly populated his nihilistic world with wholesome young actors-"fresh-faced" as Somerhalder puts it-most notably James Van Der Beek, best known as the articulately sappy title character in the tv show Dawson's Creek, who plays the predatorial lead character Sean Bateman (younger brother of Ellis' American Psycho Patrick Bateman).
Avary's choices cleverly heighten the impact of the many indignities and debaucheries (orgies, date rape, suicide, addiction) to which he subjects his characters. That the actors so obviously relish the opportunity to slut and snort their way through the film makes it all the more effective.
Of course then there's the moment that has caused screams of disbelief from countless female Dawson fans: Paul and Sean's kiss. Ask Somerhalder about their preparation for the fantasy sequence and he won't bite. "Just laughed and had a beer," he shrugs. "We just sat there, you know, it was what it was." As for tackling the sexually fluid role, Somerhalder had no anxiety. He thinks it's just a reflection of what's become "more socially acceptable". Besides, you'd expect a male model would be comfortable with it. "Yeah, you're right," he laughs. "If you're not, there's something wrong. I've been in the fashion industry for so long, I've lived in New York and LA and Europe, so many of my friends are gay."
One can imagine he's has similar experiences to his character's-gay boy lust after straight men in vain-but from the other side. If he has, he's not admitting to it, although he has at least given the situation some thought. "I talked to a lot of my friends and I came to the conclusion, it's got to suck. If you're gay and you're pining for straight men all the time, it's simply not going to happen. And I guess if you want something really badly and you literally cannot have it, that's got to be so not fun."
SOMERHALDER HITS BACK AT 'ANTI-GAY' SLUR
LOST star IAN SOMERHALDER is furious he was slammed as homophobic when he decided his famous gay kiss in THE RULES OF ATTRACTION would be his last.
The 26-year-old hunk nearly lost a lot of friends as a result of the public reaction to his remark, although he insists his words had been spectacularly misconstrued.
He says, "It's not me who can't handle it, it's the audience.
"SEANN WILLIAM SCOTT didn't get all of the backlash that I received when he did just the same in AMERICAN PIE (2).
"It was completely unjustified - fans and outraged men saying that I was making anti-gay remarks.
"I wasn't and those very close to me who are gay were visibly upset.
Somerhalder is the latest in a long line of young actors who are telling the world: "I'm not gay, but some of my best roles are." As he admits, "I've been asked a lot, are you overcompensating trying to state how straight you are? I'm not. It's challenging as a straight guy to make conscious efforts to be gay."
What the actor rejects is the suggestion that he's just wearing this season's label. "I don't even know about fashionable," he says, "I didn't really even pay attention to that. I just know that it was a challenge. Look, it's the one thing that you know when you wake up in the morning, and when you go to sleep at night-you know your sexuality. If you're really comfortable with it, then it's fine, and James and I had endless conversations about it. We knew that we had a chance to do something really cool and really funny, and frankly," he laughs, "fuck with a lot of people."

He's been accused of being gay and being straight and being all sorts of other things, but I don't ever recall rumors of him peeing on people, which makes it all the more strange that he would bring it up in an interview.

Ricky Martin told fans perhaps a little more about his sex life than some wanted to know. “I love giving the golden shower,” he told Blender. “I’ve done it before in the shower. It’s like so sexy, you know, the temperature of your body and the shower water is very different.”

I'm just going to assume that his limited grasp of the English language caused him to say something he didn't mean to say. Not because I don't believe it, but because the thought of Ricky Martin peeing on people in the shower makes me want to stab myself in the face.

What I heard was that Nicole Kidman is a Lesbian and Tom is Gay, they had an arranged marriage for their mutual careers. Why was Nicole’s career really just in Australia, but when they married she was top in Hollywood. Apparently their contract was for 10 years, and they split just as it was closed. I used to believe that the Tom Cruise "gay" rumor was simply wishful thinking by a segment of the gay community. However, I have a very good friend who is a real estate agent in California and a few years back he was showing Tom Cruise a house, along with a male "friend" of Tom's. The agent stepped away to make a phone call. When he returned, he caught Tom and his friend lip-locked in a passionate embrace. Whatever nonsense the Hollywood PR people spin, it will not change the fact that he was, is and will always be gay. This is no criticism as to his sexual orientation. Unfortunately, his image as a heterosexual hottie is one that probably needs to be maintained, in order for Tom to play the believable hetero-male roles. This is more of a commentary on our present day culture and society than anything else. Oh well - it is what it is. One thing I'm fairly certain of ... over the course of time, his gay status will be known and acknowledged by the majority. When you're a celebrity, it's pretty tough to hide something like this for very long.

Word has it that when they were married, Mimi Rogers caught husband Tom Cruise in bed with her brother and all hell broke loose. Since then, Cruise has entered into contracted marriages to keep the gay truth at bay. Rogers was told to keep quiet and she would always work. Kidman was told to stay married for a limited term and she would be made a star. Now it's Holmes' turn. Of course, it could be just a rumour :)

Oh please, like Rob Thomas could even get Brad Pitt. Believe me I've tried, and that guy is impossible to please. The thing you have to remember about Matt Damon here is that he is gay. But he doesn't want anyone to know that he is gay, and this is how this whole thing got started...

Matt Damon thinks that by coming out of the closet, he will join the likes of Anne Heche, in that he'll never be able to do a romantic comedy, or be placed with a leading lady, because, let's face it, how many people really bought into "Six Days, Seven Nights" with Harrison always-butch Ford, and Anne I'm-with-Ellen-DeGeneres-today-but-I'll-be-God-tomorrow Heche? Seriously?

But something bad happened one night... well, good for Matt, bad for Ben Affleck. Matt kissed Ben when they were both drunk, and someone saw them, and threatened to blow his cover. That person was Gwyneth Paltrow.

Nevertheless, here we have her. At the beginning of DAPT, Gwyneth Paltrow had just broken up with Brad Pitt, or I should say that he dumped her. They only dated for about a year, and I have great suspicion that he might have some DAPT-like secret going on himself, but I can only do one thing at a time.

After Gwyneth was dumped by Brad, she moved into Winona Ryder's place (more on her in a minute), and was with Winona at the party that sparked DAPT.

Gwyneth found Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in a compromising position at the party, and blackmailed Ben Affleck into going out with her, to keep her star shining.

Ben is the good guy in this theory. He was just trying to do something nice for his friend. So after getting drunk at a party, kissing Matt Damon, and receiving a phone call that changed Hollywood, Ben was roped right into DAPT

It might not all be bad, though. There was a lot of publicity surrounding his "romance" with Gwyneth Paltrow, and both he and Matt Damon have become huge stars. In fact, the only down side of DAPT at all would have to be the most overrated sack of crap's involvement in the first place.

Winona Ryder

Winona is the missing link. Simple as that. We pondered for months until we figured out that Winona Ryder was the one that brought these four together.

Her involvement in DAPT, other than being Gwyneth's generous roommate, involves losing a bet. The bet was that if Gwyneth could get Ben to date her, then she would date Matt Damon.

If you think about it, Winona Ryder is the perfect cover for a girlfriend of Matt Damon. As much as I am a Winona Ryder enthusiast... even I can admit that she looks like a man. Maybe not when she's got long hair, but when that hair comes off, you can't tell the difference. That must have helped Matt in public when he'd have to kiss her.

The Theory

For those of you who were not paying attention so far, I'll put it together for you.

You see, there was this party. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck went together because Matt wanted to have some fun, and Matt said that Ben needed to get out of the house, as he was missing his east-coast-high-school girlfriend, Cheyenne. Ben agrees, but then doesn't really have too much fun at the party, except for getting a little too tipsy.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Winona Ryder went to the party together because Winona was sick of sitting around her apartment, where she kindly let Gwyneth stay, listening to Gwyneth go on and on about how bad she felt about breaking up with Brad Pitt (by the way, for the record, Brad Pitt dumped her).

Matt Damon also got a bit tipsy at the party, and when he saw his friend Ben not having a good time, he invited him to a moment in private to talk things out. When they were in private, Matt got the wrong signals from his drunk friend, and kissed him.

Ben, after a moment too many, told Matt to stop it, that he was straight, in love with Cheyenne, and even though he was kind of mad would still keep Matt's secret.

What they didn't know was that the overrated sack of crap Gwyneth Paltrow was lurking behind the almost-but-not-quite closed door, and saw the whole thing. Being overrated, she knew that without a handsome, talented boyfriend, the press would give up on her and stop following her around, thus making her a has-been. So she figured that if she blackmailed Ben Affleck she'd get what she wanted, and Matt would get what he wanted (no, not Ben--to have his secret safe, what's wrong with you?!)

Winona flat-out laughed at Gwyneth when she heard the overrated sack of crap's plan. She told Gwyneth, very sarcastically, if she pulled it off, she'd help Matt by dating him to make it look like he was, in fact, straight.

Gwyneth thought this was a grand idea, because Winona had always looked like a man anyway (and though Winona was insulted by this, even she couldn't argue) and Gwyneth called Ben the next morning.

Ben was furious at Gwyneth's plan, but didn't have much of a choice, seeing as how he wouldn't ever let his friend Matt down, so he told Gwyneth that she had one year.

Sure enough, one year later, Gwyneth and Ben broke up. (Matt and Winona broke up some time in between, as well).

REACTION TO THE RUMOURS

After Good Will Hunting, Damon and Affleck appeared in several films together, did joint interviews, interviewed each other, and seemed as tight at 30 as they had been at 10. It struck some people as weird, made them the butt of innumerable "are they gay?" jokes, and eventually started to hurt their careers.

Celebrities With Beards

A "Beard" is a term used in gay communities which refers to the female companionship that a gay or gay-leaning bisexual male wears in his life to disguise the face of his true preference for the companionship of other males. Gays and gay-leaning bisexuals have been known to take on a beard as young as 13 years old, from studies of suicide notes of teens who committed suicide due to concerns over their (homo/bi) sexuality.

The use of beards has long been a favorite strategy of Hollywood agents and publicists, often recommended to, or imposed upon, a male celebrity, and sometimes the beard is even paid a lump sum or a salary to play the desired role. In the past, the "beard" strategy has often been combined with leaked stories/pictures to selected reporters regarding liaisons between gay celebrities and females (beards or otherwise), which often then showed up in various rags, and in the modern-day these strategies are sometimes combined with paying Internet surfers for their opinions to combat fans who say their favorite celebrity is gay/bisexual.
And taking it even further, upon the recommendation of agents and publicists, some gay or gay-leaning bisexual celebrities even pick up hookers and/or hire call girls, and pay them primarily to spread stories about their (heterosexual) prowess throughout the community.
However, there are always people in a celebrity's life who know the truth, and that truth often bubbles to the surface, either from the celebrity's own community, or the community of friends which the celebrity frequents.
And when all else fails, and when a young gay actor refuses to play ball and remain closeted, then there is always the old "nude pictures" trick, where someone gets the young actor into a position where allegedly unflattering nude pictures can be taken of him, and then those pictures are used as blackmail for the entire career of the young actor, forcing the young actor to play ball and remain closeted, whether he likes it or not.
The agents, publicists, celebrities, etc., who do these things are not necessarily bad people, often they simply don't understand that their efforts are contributing to the disproportionate numbers of gay/bi teen suicides, and many of them simply do what they are doing for money, or for recognition. Check out the Human Rights Campaign web site to begin to understand the impact of such choices on gay/bi teens.

Sexual Behavior in the Human Male (1948) and Sexual Behavior in the Human Female (1953) reported that: 37% of males and 13% of females had at least some overt homosexual experience to orgasm; 10% of males were more or less exclusively homosexual and 8% of males were exclusively homosexual for at least three years between the ages of 16 and 55. For females, Kinsey reported a range of 2-6% for more or less exclusively homosexual experience/response. 4% of males and 1-3% of females had been exclusively homosexual after the onset of adolescence up to the time of the interview. Kinsey devised a classification scheme to measure sexual orientation. It is commonly known as the Kinsey Scale.

Indications that Jesus did have a homosexual orientation

"In the Gospel of John, the disciple John frequently refers to himself in the third person as 'the disciple whom Jesus loved'." 4 For example, during the Last Supper before Jesus' execution, he describes how the "beloved" disciple laid himself on Jesus' inner tunic -- his undergarment. See John 13:25 and 21:20. Robert Goss, assistant professor of comparative religion at Webster University in St. Louis, LA, noted that Jesus and the beloved disciple: "... eat together, side by side. What's being portrayed here is a pederastic relationship between an older man and a younger man. A Greek reader would understand." 5 Jesus appears to have loved all of his male and female followers in a close, trusting, non-erotic manner. However, the "beloved" disciple appears to be in a special relationship with Jesus; the disciple was "the" beloved. He was in a class by himself.

On the other hand: Some commentators have suggested that it was a common practice in Judea at that time for heterosexual man to lay his head on another's undergarment. Such behaviour was common between two heterosexuals in an emotionally close but non-erotic relationship during the first century CE. 6

Jenny Stokes, research director for Saltshakers, a conservative Christian group in Australia, said that there are five words for love in Greek (the language in which the Gospels were written: Agape: spiritual, unconditional love,

Eros: erotic love,

Philia: love between friends,

Storge: familial love.

The Gospel references to "the disciple whom Jesus loved" use the word "agape." 3 Whether the authors originally used "eros" and the word was subsequently changed is open to speculation.

"Jagannath" interprets the Gospels differently. He argues that Jesus may have been bisexual. He wrote: "In the Book of John a word is used eight times that means 'is in love with' with the implication of sexual intimacy. Five times it is used with reference to Jesus' relationship with John. Once it is used to define Jesus' relationship with Lazarus. And it is also used to describe his relationship with Mary and with her sister Martha." 7

During the crucifixion, in John 19:26-28, Jesus is described as seeing his mother and an unidentified man: "the disciple standing by, whom he loved." Jesus probably loved all of his 12 or 70 disciples in a non-sexual manner. But this particular disciple is identified as "the" disciple who Jesus loved. That might indicate a special intimate relationship with one special disciple.

The late Morton Smith, of Columbia University reported in 1958 that he had found a fragment of a manuscript which at the Mar Saba monastery near Jerusalem. It contained the full text of Mark, chapter 10. Apparently the version that is in the Christian Scriptures is an edited version of the original. Additional verses allegedly formed part of the full version of Mark, and were inserted after verse 34. It discusses how a young man, naked but for a linen covering, expressed his love for Jesus and stayed with him at his place all night.

"J Richards" suggested that Mark 7:14-16 shows that Jesus approves of homosexual acts. The critical phrase reads: "There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him..." Richards suggests that Jesus gave great emphasis to this teaching, directing it to everyone. Richards suggests that the sentence refers to dietary laws and also extends to "blood transfusions, medication, organ transplants, and artificial insemination" and to homosexual acts as well. 8

On the other hand, these words have historically been interpreted as overturning the Mosaic law about eating,

Rollan McCleary, was awarded his doctorate from the University of Queensland in Australia during 2003-MAY for his work researching the sexual orientation of Jesus and his disciples. He obtained about $33,000 US in funding from the government to finance his degree. He concluded that Jesus and at least three of his disciples were gay. He based this conclusion on excerpts from the Gospel of John and on Jesus' astrological chart based on the approximate year, month, day and place where he was born. Considering that many theologians have concluded that Jesus was born sometime in the Fall, between 4 and 7 BCE, it is difficult to understand how an accurate astrological chart can be prepared. Dr. McCleary told Australian Broadcasting Commission radio that, in the past, "one or two queer theologians" had attempted to show Jesus was gay. "People haven't taken them very seriously because they don't have any evidence and they say things so sensationally that people are not really going to listen or just be very angry. What I'm doing is showing a much more theological and also astrological dimension on all this which will make a lot more sense to people." 9 He has written a book based on his doctoral thesis which was published in 2004. 18

An anonymous webmaster wrote about a revelation that he received during her/his daily prayer and meditation: "Suddenly many aspects of the New Testament made sense. Jesus never married. He preached love, tolerance, and forgiveness of sins. He did not condemn and vilify as his so-called followers do today. He surrounded himself with men whom he loved. The Bible says nothing of Jesus' sexuality, yet we are taught that he was both divine and fully man. Why did he never marry? Why is the New Testament silent about his sexuality? It became so clear when I had the insight that Jesus was probably gay and that He understood hatred and bigotry first-hand." 10

Mark 14:51-52 describes the incident when Jesus was arrested by the religious police. It describes how one of Jesus' followers was scantily dressed. The King James Version says he had a linen cloth cast on his naked body; the size and location of the cloth is not defined. The New International Version says that he was "wearing nothing but a linen garment." When the police tried to seize him, they were able to grab only his cloth; the man ran away naked. Reverend Peter Murphy wrote: "We don't know from the sources what really was going on, but we do know that something was very peculiar between Jesus and young men." 11 (Emphasis in the original.)

Michael Kelly wrote of Jesus' attitude towards a same-sex couple as described in Matthew 8:5-13: and Luke 7:2: "One day a Roman Centurion asked him to heal his dying servant. Scholars of both Scripture and Ancient History tell us that Roman Centurions, who were not permitted to marry while in service, regularly chose a favorite male slave to be their personal assistant and sexual servant. Such liaisons were common in the Greco-Roman world and it was not unusual for them to deepen into loving partnerships....Jesus offered to go to the servant, but the centurion asked him simply to speak a word of healing, since he was not worthy to welcome this itinerant Jewish teacher under his roof. Jesus responded by healing the servant and proclaiming that even in Israel he had never found faith like this! So, in the one Gospel story where Jesus encountered people sharing what we would call a 'gay relationship,' we see him simply concerned about ?and deeply moved by ?their faith and love." Kelly implies that Jesus' sensitivity towards the gay couple might have arisen from his own bisexual or homosexual orientation. 1

Some commentators argue from silence. They note that there is no passage in the Christian Scriptures (New Testament) that directly describes anything about Jesus' sexuality. There are many direct and indirect references to Jesus' sensuality. He was accused of being a "drunkard and a glutton" and of partying with "prostitutes and sinners." He apparently enjoyed a tender foot massage from a woman. Yet, neither Jesus' sexuality nor his celibacy is mentioned. Yet, sex is referred to, elsewhere in the Bible, quite often. One might argue that the books in the Christian Scriptures might have once described Jesus' sexual relationships, but that these passages have been vigorously censored by the later church because they were unconventional.

Other commentators have noted that Jesus is silent towards homosexuality in the Gospels. Yet, Paul's opinions and those of many other authors in the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) are clearly stated. They conclude that Jesus might have been gay himself. Odler Jeanlouie speculated: "Is it meaningful that, in the Sermon on the Mount, central to his teaching, he offered a one-way trip to the Kingdom of God, to anyone who is persecuted?" 12
